David Carpentier – Co-founder & CEO
David is Assurely’s CEO responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the Company's long and short term plans.
David is an experienced insurance professional primarily stemming from a successful career within the retail insurance brokerage industry. He was an innovator there and has a track-record of identifying shortcomings within industries. He has created innovative products that focus on adding value to each stakeholder a respective industries’ ecosystem.
David previously spent numerous years at USI Insurance Services, a leading insurance brokerage firm, selling and developing insurance products for enterprise clients. Since 2007, David has been widely viewed as one of the rising stars within the marketplace and a future leader in the industry.
David extended his experience of building successful products and strategies to Heuro LLC as Director, Strategy & Innovation. There he was involved in all aspects of the startup operation with a heavy emphasis on product & market strategy, strategic partnerships, and setting the foundation for a scalable infrastructure. David successfully supported Heuro in securing numerous, high-profile enterprise partnerships and by being acknowledged as one of the most exciting health tech startups in the industry.
Prior to USI, David owned and operated his own business while he played hockey professionally. He received a B.A. in Marketing and Sociology from Providence College. Originally from Minnesota, David currently lives in New York City.
Ty Sagalow – Co-founder & Chief Insurance Officer
Ty is one of the most respected insurance professionals in the business stemming from a long and storied career at some of the largest and most exciting insurance companies in the world.
In addition to his role as Co-Founder, Mr. Sagalow is responsible for the underwriting and insurance for CrowdProtector and any other insurance product created by the Company. Ty oversees all underwriting, product development, claims, and legal functions.
Mr. Sagalow is a 30-year veteran of the insurance industry and an expert in new product development in a range of insurance product lines, particularly cyber-insurance, directors & officer’s liability insurance, professional liability insurance, employment practices liability insurance, and reputation insurance. Additionally, with his unique background combining management and professional liability legal, underwriting, and policy drafting, Mr. Sagalow is one of the industry’s most sought-after experts in D&O/E&O coverage disputes.
Mr. Sagalow spent 25 years as a senior executive with AIG. His major positions included ten years as Chief Underwriting Officer and General Counsel for AIG Executive Liability (f/k/a National Union). National Union is the largest provider of management and professional liability insurance in the United States. From 2000 to 2005, he was Chief Operating Officer of AIG eBusiness Risk Solutions, a large provider of security and privacy insurance. From 2005 to 2009, he headed up new product development at AIG General Insurance as President of Product Development before moving to Zurich North America as Chief Innovation Officer. In April 2011, Ty departed Zurich to create Innovation Insurance Group.
Mr. Sagalow is a founding member and founding Chief Insurance Officer of Lemonade, and founding CEO of Lemonade Insurance Company, the first full stack InsurTech insurance carrier in the United States now licensed in over 28 states.
Mr. Sagalow has produced insurance products resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars of gross premium. They include Y2k Insurance, (Entity Cover) Directors and Officers Insurance, Cyber Insurance, Reputation Insurance, and Intellectual Property Collateral Insurance, among others.
Mr. Sagalow is a frequent author and speaker. His works include @Risk: Internet and E-Commerce Insurance and Reinsurance Legal Issues and Directors & Officers Insurance Handbook.
Mr. Sagalow has appeared on CNBC, WPIX-TV, PBS and Bloomberg Radio, and he has spoken before various tech, legal and insurance forums on issues including the White House, Department of Homeland Security, and Congress. He was also the host of the series “Innovations in Insurance with Ty Sagalow,” produced by World Risk and Insurance News.
Mr. Sagalow has been interviewed on the topic of innovation by many organizations, including Harvard Business Review and Business Insurance.
Mr. Sagalow is a summa cum laude graduate of Long Island University, a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, and he earned the LLM from New York University School of Law.
Ed burnett – head of technology
Ed joins Assurely as Head of Technology after spending six and a half years at Namely as the the founding VP of Engineering. At Namely, Ed built out the initial engineering, product, and operations teams. We was responsible for scaling the tech and operations of Namely to well over 1000 enterprise clients.
As part of Ed’s role with Assurely, he will be tasked to do much of the same while continuing to innovate around tech solutions for new products and clients in the insurance industry. Ed is responsible for defining and building the Assurely product, supporting the system administration and site reliability, and facilitating supporting 3rd Party integrations with clients and partners. Ed will lead the technology effort and scale the team.
Prior to Assurely and Namely, Ed worked as a full-stack web engineer at agency Code and Theory and as a software trainer for 2 years at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin. He graduated with a BS in Computer Science and was a member of the Wisconsin Mens Crew team.
Joann healy – head of marketing and communications
JoAnn joins Assurely as Head of Marketing and Communications after spending over nine years in various Senior Marketing and Communication roles at one of the original FinTech companies, Swift. JoAnn is responsible for creating and executing on an Assurely’s integrated marketing and communications strategy.
JoAnn has been on the front lines of communicating change and innovation in financial services. Prior to Swift, JoAnn held a senior role at BT Global Financial Services which provided trading room systems, financial markets connectivity, low latency strategies and managed network services to the financial services sector. On the agency side, she ran the Intermarket's financial technology practice and completed as a stint in D.C. working for Congressman Richard E. Neal (D-MA).
JoAnn is an avid skier and ski instructor. She has an Economics degree from Western New England University and a Masters from Emerson College.
John is a seasoned startup operating executive with early stage investment experience and an early operator of Assurely working directly with David. John was integral to the birth of Assurely and remains an active advisor.
John has been a member of the Scout Ventures team since 2011 focusing on consumer internet, mobile, and ad tech before being crucial to the genesis of Assurely in 2012.
John’s previous experience includes product management at WebMD and Microsoft, Senior Director at WhenU, management consulting at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and investing at Prism VentureWorks.
John graduated from Yale University with BA in Economics and UC Berkeley with an MBA from the Haas School of Business.
Brad is an entrepreneur and seasoned business development executive with a passion for technology, media, entertainment and lifestyle. Brad has a great deal of experience launching new ventures. While attending MIT, he worked as a Partner in a seed stage venture fund, ITU Ventures, and helped launch a joint MIT-Harvard incubator. During this experience, Brad worked at the earliest stages with many dynamic companies including Endeca Technologies.
While serving as Director of Media Strategy and Development at AOL, Brad co-authored 3 patents in search, geo-tagging, and personalization, with Edmund Fish, Senior Vice President and General Manager at AOL. Following AOL, Brad helped raise $40M in venture funding for a contextual online advertising network. Prior to launching his business career, Brad was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the United States Army for five years, earning both Airborne and Ranger qualifications before retiring as Captain. He resides in Tribeca with his wife, Angie, his son, Elvis and his daughter, Scout.
Steven Santiago - Advisor
As an Advisor, Steven brings investment insights and hands-on experience to Assurely in building companies, raising capital, and connecting Assurely to emerging marketplaces and strategic partnerships. His career has been dedicated to being a successful investor, mentor, advisor, and strategist for the last 15 years.
Steven is currently Managing Partner at Aedifex Ventures, a platform providing unique capital solutions and alternative liquidity for venture firms and their portfolio companies. Additionally, Steven serves as both an active venture investor and advisor to a handful of exciting and dynamic companies.
Most recently, Steven was a Partner and Director of Asset Management for a $4.0 billion San Francisco based private investment firm where he built and led deals teams responsible for over 100 portfolio companies globally. Steven started his career raising equity capital for technology and healthcare companies and then provided M&A and advisory services focused on regulated industries such as banks, alternative investment funds and the insurance industry.
Steven brings hands on operating and strategic experience to Assurely, having served as an executive and board member for numerous startups and growth companies ranging from fintech, payment processing, IoT, Big Data, renewable energy and Blockchain-based technologies.
Steven is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and graduated Magna Cum Laude while earning dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Finance and Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Gies College of Business.
Brett Maloley has had a decade-long career in the fitness industry, both as an executive and as an entrepreneur, having built two successful equipment distribution and consulting companies, a transcendent non-profit geared to combat childhood obesity and most recently serving as the chief executive officer for a publicly traded nutritional supplement distribution platform.
Brett is currently a Co-founder and CEO of Austin-based fit-tech startup Ladder, a mobile platform that connects people with local health and wellness professionals, via digital coaching. Additionally, Brett serves as an advisor to The Medical Fitness Network as well as 64px.com, the world's largest network of Google Chrome extensions.
